A practical example of this, if I may offer one, is a role I’ve recently volunteered for within my company. I work in finance but I heard the company was looking to hire a data scientist and I’ve been interested in (and have some experience with) data science for a while now. I convinced them to let me try solving some of the problems they were looking to fix before they hire someone and they let me.
My company has paid for some intro to data science courses for me and I can expense most resources I need to learn the craft. I’m developing my skills while working and my employer is saving money, it’s a win-win-win.
