Hey Sally, that is a great point I had not really considered. I assumed that most assessments were scored and reported on within weeks- not semesters. My thoughts on that are two-fold:
- The teacher could use non-state issued tests as the benchmark for data collection and analyzation. Meaning, valuable assessments should be conducted throughout the school year and used to measure progress.
- The state-issued test results and data evaluation should be very important to the child’s next teacher. If the child’s next teacher is not valuing the data collected from the previous year, the data needs to be made more relevant. With better data analyzation, I think it is possible to generate genuinely useful reports.
Thank you for shedding some light on this perspective!
