I don’t even know who this guy is so I’m not on either side of that debate (thankfully- by the sound of it)but-

I would like to point out that the company you keep is largely intentional.

If a person intentionally and consistently surrounds himself with a higher proportion of objectively bad people, it says something pretty clear about that person.

If that person happens to be standing behind a bad person when they rob a bank, that says nothing about that person.

That, I think, is the difference.
