I love this point and would add that it is important, as the supervisor, to work with the employee to come up with a plan to address key issues and work on increasing job satisfaction for the future. It is a common mistake for managers to go into performance reviews with a set “outcomes” agenda and this is apparent to any employee regardless of the supervisor’s attempt to appear truly openminded. Thanks for writing this Rebecca Fishbein!
