I tend to wonder if video-based therapy is the closest thing to working as the real-life in person type less because the therapist needs to gain the trust of the patient but more because seeing someone visually is powerful in giving you insight into their emotional state and mental capacity. Between our microexpressions (so fleeting that the conscious brain can’t detect them but the subconscious brain somehow gets the message) and our body language, there is a huge amount of research that would suggest the benefits of in-person therapy are less about the location and more about the observation.
