I think it is worth noting that men are able to traditionally “steer the ship” as you’ve put it, by controlling the money behind the sails. The only reason there are so many male venture capitalists is because at first there were a few guys who got together to fund some companies and then they brought their friends (more men) on board and the cycle continued to today. Women have the opportunity (both the means and the platform) to do the same thing today. We need more female entrepreneurs, that is true, but I would argue that we need a greater number of female venture capitalists more. Luckily the tides are turning and women led firms like SoGal Ventures and Female Founders Fund are taking charge. It is my opinion that the more female VC’s we have the smaller the pay gap will get.
