I’m with you all the way through and I praise the real examples you gave of the embarrassing (and rightfully so) mistakes that companies have made as a result of their lack of employee diversity. The question that always haunts me though, is how?

How do we practically develop a system where workplaces are actively removing bias from the culture and promotion process? It’s great to generate awareness, but we need solutions.

I have knowledge that one forward-thinking consulting firm, focused on cultivating a team of diverse bright individuals, has a team in place that reviews candidates up for promotion (on a time scale, which is twice a year) and discusses not only their progress and contributions but also any bias that may be held against them and make sure fair consideration is given to that fact.

If we stop making “discrimination” and “diversity” taboo work topics I think we can start having open and honest discussions that will lead to greater equality and ultimately systemic change.

Thanks for writing this!
