Pierce Gordon, Ph.D. Thanks- I am glad the actionable tips helped!

That is such a good question and one that I am crazy interested in. The best answer I have been able to come up with thus far is that knowledge is the most powerful weapon against marketers and advertisement manipulators. When I go through my inbox and see the email from Amazon with the subject line “Here are some great picks for you” I delete it instantly because I know they are using their marketing tactics on me and, as a mere mortal, I am likely to succumb to them if I open the email. I also look at sales suspiciously, whether it’s in the grocery store and a box of cookies is “buy one get one free” I do the quick math and often find out that the one box of cookies costs as much as two would regularly cost- so I am not saving any money, I am likely falling victim to a clever marketing tactic. The more I know about what strategies marketers use, the better I am at identifying when they are trying to play me. Thanks for the great question!
