Someone is making 95% of your decisions, but it’s not you.

Well, it’s not exactly you. Neuroscience has determined that only roughly 5% of our thoughts occur consciously- meaning we are only actively making a fraction of our decisions- the rest are left for our subconscious to deal with.

Take, for example, a choice you consciously make: which brand of laundry detergent to buy. You’re in the store debating between Tide and Gain. You take into account all of your laundry detergent experiences and use this information, along with on-site data (price, discount, etc.) to inform your decision. Let’s say you choose Tide- you put it in your cart and walk away.

But why did you choose to shop at that store? How do you know that the price of the detergent was a good one? Why were you only debating between Tide and Gain when there are at least 7 other detergent brands in that same aisle?
