That’s a great question (about a great question haha).

What do we mean by “the right thing”?

Personally, I have a test that I perform and it might not be accurate for everyone but it works for me: I tend to know whether I’m working on the “right” thing or working with the “right” people when I forget to check my phone. I literally forget where my phone even is. When time goes by and you don’t feel it draining from your life, something about that discovery should indicate to you that you’re on the “right” path. That’s what I meant about knowing yourself really well. Maybe it’s not your phone that you forget to check. Maybe it’s your email or you find that your heart rate settles when you work on project X but beats anxiously when you’re around person Y working on project Z. Just knowing yourself is the real key, in my opinion, to knowing if you’re working on the “right” thing.
