The tough part and where I think a lot of people “fall apart” for lack of a better term is in picking the right things to work on. No one will tell you what the right things are and it’s not even remotely obvious what they might be.

For most products and services in today’s world we have a sense of the indications for good and bad. For what to work on though, we aren’t afforded that same luxury.

It isn’t as if you can say “the right things to work on are the things that contribute directly to my income” because using that litmus test I would never have worked on several of my side projects that never brought me any money but brought me intense learning and joy.

It isn’t as if you can say “the right things to work on are the things that bring me joy” because then I would never go into the office and sit at my desk.

The best advice I’ve been offered with this “how do I know what are the right things to work on” conundrum is to really get familair with yourself. Understand what you want, need, and how you respond to a huge variety of situations and then just make sure you’re always being honest ith yourself in what you choose to work on.

Thanks for writing this!
