This is one of the main concerns I have when I look at the mainstream health trends and the main concerns I have when my friends tell me about a new fitness regime they have designed that may not be common but is in the same general category as the rest.
It is not for me to judge whether being obsessive about what you eat is good or bad- but I will offer a suggestion to those who feel that it must be “all or nothing.”
Many professional bodybuilders and athletes alter their diet on a regular basis or abstain from something for a limited period of time only. For example, if you’re dead set on not eating carbs, that’s fine- don’t eat them this week, eat them next week, don’t eat them the week after. If you feel the need to cut dairy out, that’s okay- do it for 8 weeks and then reassess.
The biggest takeaway being- don’t let these diets and fitness schedules control your life- the reason you’re doing them is so that you can live your life longer.
