Why Do Humans Crave Control?
Have you ever had an extreme micro-manager for a boss?
Do you have that one friend that is really Type-A? You know who I’m talking about- she’s the one who creates itineraries for every brunch and night out.
Have you ever met someone who is borderline obsessive when it comes to obscure tiny details? He’s the guy who has to have to have a coaster for every glass and fix random out of place things (like crooked wall art and candy bars at the checkout counter) even though it isn’t his job to.
It seems as if these traits would hinder achievement, as it certainly takes more time, effort, and energy to indulge in these sorts of behaviors, but have you ever noticed that these are the types of people who tend to be really successful?
Is this an interesting coincidence or is there a correlation between their intense demand for control over their environment and the level of achievement they have attained?
Every single person on earth has a universal need for the basic elements that sustain life. Water, food, shelter, oxygen- these things are non-negotiable because without them we would literally die.
